In the early days, the materials the Mission needed to function had to be made locally, grown locally, or traded for. Sheep farming thus was an important Mission activity, both for local use as well as for trade between the other missions of the chain for items that could not be obtained locally.

To make woolen cloth, the wool from the Mission sheep first had to be cleaned and carded (to disentangle the short hairs of the wool), then spun into thread on a spinning wheel like this one to your left. The thread was then woven into blankets and woolen cloth on looms such as the one behind me.
