The Friars' Bed Room

At a time when the usual bed was probably a pile of straw, a simple bed like this one made from a wooden frame strung with inter-woven leather strapping would have been a luxury for the Friars!

The Friars used simple coarsely woven woolen blankets (with some of the burrs purposely not removed!) for cover. In very cold weather, the rooms which did not have fireplaces may have been heated with charcoal braziers (special metal pans that hold the charcoal while it burns) just set on the floor.

There was no need for much closet space, the Friars would have owned little more than the clothes that they wore every day! A simple trunk to store a few personal items would have sufficed.
